[/column] [column places=»2″]Laurence Adriaens qualified as a dentist (magna cum laude) at the University of Ghent (Belgium) in July 2002. During her dental education she stayed for 3 months at the Dental School of Glasgow (Scotland) as an Erasmus-exchange student. After finishing dental school she spent time in different specialty practices in Europe as well as in New York (USA). Before enrolling into a specialist program, she worked in a general dental practice in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), and in the International Center for Periodontology and Oral Implants in Brussels (Belgium) where she collaborated with Prof. Dr. Patrick Adriaens.
In September 2003 Dr. Adriaens moved to Firenze (Italy) to work in the private multi-disciplinary dental practice of Dr. Sandro Cortellini. In this multi-disciplinary practice she had the opportunity to discuss multiple treatment plans with the different specialists. This experience made her aware of the enriching advantages of such team work.
Laurence Adriaens started her 3-year specialist training program in October 2004 in the Department of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Berne (Switzerland) under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Niklaus P. Lang and his team. During her post-graduate training she was also involved in teaching to the under-graduate students and supervising their clinical work. Being involved in several research projects before and during her specialty training, gave her the opportunity to develop her skills for participating in scientific research projects. She presented the results of these projects at international scientific meetings.
In January 2008 she was awarded the degree of Master of Advanced Studies in Periodontology at the University of Berne (Switzerland), as well as the degree as Specialist in Periodontology recognized by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP).
At the end of 2008 she has been accepted as an ITI-fellow. The International Team of Implantologists (ITI) is an institution promoting research projects in the fields of periodontology and implantology.
She has presented the results of her research projects at national and international scientific meetings and has published scientific articles in national and international dental journals.
With the knowledge acquired during her specialist training, her main future objectives are to collaborate with general practitioners and to plan together with them the best treatment options for the periodontal health of their patients. Dr. Adriaens speaks Spanish, English, French, Dutch and German which will facilitate communicating with her patients.[/column] [/columns]
